Testing Lenses for Chromatic Aberration with Canon 20D or EOS-1Ds
Tests were run at variable working distances from the
target for each focal length so that the target filled the viewfinder. An
Edmund Scientific lens resolution chart was illuminated with a tungsten
modeling bulb from a monolight flash. The cameras were mounted on a Bogen
3033/Arca Swiss B1 tripod/head combination with a large Kirk bean bag
weighing down the tripod/head to dampen vibration. Two exposures were shot
using mirror lockup and aperture priority exposure at +1 exposure
compensation with a cable shutter release at ISO 100 in large jpg mode.
Custom white balance was selected using a grey card. The central autofocus
point was centered over the center pattern for each exposure. Exposures
were taken with the lens aperture fully opened and at f/8. Results were
comparable at both apertures and final analysis is reported/shown for the
f/8 exposure.
