Technical Note #1

Photographs were taken with an EOS-1V switching between EF 85mm f/1.8, EF 100mm f/2 and EF 135mm f/2 L lenses. The camera was mounted on a tripod. The lens was focused on the mannequins right eye with the autofocus spot. Aperture priority mode at apertures f/2, f/2.8 and f/4 were taken using evaluative metering and Delta 100 film. Two series of photographs were taken with the three lenses from approximately the same angle with the mannequin in the same position relative to the background. Only the working distance was changed among the 3 lenses so that the mannequin filled approximately the same amount of the field in each photograph series to put head and shoulders in the frame.

The film was developed in ID-11, and film was scanned with a Polaroid SprintScan 35 Plus using autoexposure mode. Images were subjected to identical unsharp masking in PhotoShop and cropped to similar size. Smaller head shot images were cropped from the larger scans to assess image sharpness.
